The 15M Movement was born in Spain as a response to the precariousness and adverse economic conditions of the majority of the population due to the economic crisis that began in 2008.
This international economic crisis particularly affected countries like Spain, where counterproductive spending containment policies were carried out, together with a high public deficit, decreased productivity and competitiveness and political corruption caused the highest levels of unemployment in 2013 with 27.16% in general terms and 57.2% youth unemployment.
