The withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union was made official on 31 January 2020, once the agreement was ratified by the UK on 23 January and by the EU on 30 January, ending 47 years of being a member state of the EU. This withdrawal process, known as Brexit, had its starting point with the celebration of the referendum in 2016, in which voters chose to leave the EU with 51.9% of the vote share.
In recent years, many citizens with a European passport have lived with uncertainty the future that awaited them and their families, due to the legislative changes regarding residence in a non-EU state.
This series of photographs were taken during the last year of Brexit, in the privacy of the homes of different European citizens living in Edinburgh, Scotland. Each of them with their personal circumstances, living with a partner, alone, with friends, strangers, with family, residing in the UK for many years or only a few months ago, but all of them with something in common, the feeling of uncertainty, frustration and exhaustion in a situation marked by the lack of clarity from the authorities.
